Alejandro Garnacho Ferreyra is a Spanish winger currently playing for Manchester United in the Premier League.
Although born in Spain, he represents the Argentina national team.
Early life
Garnacho, born on July 1, 2004, in Madrid, is the son of a Spanish-born father, Alex Garnacho, and an Argentine mother, Patricia Ferreyra Fernández. His younger brother is Roberto Garnacho. Alex Garnacho is closely linked to the management firm Leader Sports Management, which currently represents Alejandro.
Career
From Madrid, Garnacho began his football journey in 2015, moving from Getafe to Atlético Madrid’s youth setup.
In October 2020, Garnacho began his journey with Manchester United, joining from Atlético Madrid for a fee of £420,000. He signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2021.
Garnacho’s talent stood out when he scored a sensational solo goal during the FA Youth Cup win over Everton, earning a nomination for United’s Goal of the Month in February 2022. Later that year, he made his senior debut for United, coming on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw against Chelsea. Garnacho’s stellar performances earned him the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award. He also played a key role in the FA Youth Cup final, scoring twice to help United secure the trophy for the first time since 2011.
Ahead of the 2022–23 Premier League campaign, Garnacho changed his shirt number from 75 to 49. Highlights include his important goal for United’s U21 side against Barrow in the 2022–23 EFL Trophy and his first senior goal in the Europa League against Real Sociedad, assisted by his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo. Garnacho endeared himself to United fans by scoring his first Premier League goal against Fulham. He also provided an assist in the Manchester derby. However, an ankle ligament injury kept him sidelined for several weeks, but he returned with a goal against Wolves. He then extended his contract with the club until 2028.
Before the 2023–24 Premier League season, Garnacho’s squad number changed from 49 to 17. He continued to impress, scoring a stunning bicycle-kick goal against Everton, winning the Premier League Goal of the Month for November 2023. Garnacho also scored his first Champions League goal in a draw against Galatasaray. He showcased his ability to score crucial goals with a brace against Aston Villa, earning the Man of the Match award. Despite a brace against Chelsea, United lost in a dramatic match.

Garnacho had the option to represent either Spain, his country of birth, or Argentina, due to his Argentine mother. He initially played for the Spain under-18 team in 2021, making three appearances.
However, in March 2022, Garnacho received a call-up to the senior Argentina team for World Cup qualifiers. Although he didn’t feature in the matches, he later debuted for the Argentina under-20 squad in a friendly against the United States in March 2022. His standout performances at the 2022 Maurice Revello Tournament, where he scored four goals, earned him the Revelation Player and Goal of the Tournament awards.
Despite a setback due to an ankle injury in March 2023, Garnacho finally made his senior debut for Argentina in June 2023, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Australia.
