Early life and Education
Ahmed Ololade was born on January 13, 1995 in Lagos State, Nigeria and was raised in his hometown. His parents, both Muslims from the South-Western part of Nigeria, contributed to his upbringing. His father is a businessman based in Lagos, while his mother previously worked as a teacher.
He pursued his education in Theatre and Dramatic Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria.
Career
Asake embarked on his music journey in 2017, gaining significant traction in 2022 with the release of his single “Mr. Money” and a subsequent remix featuring Zlatan and Peruzzi. This success led to him being signed by Olamide to YBNL Records and the release of his debut EP, “Ololade,” which included the hit “Omo Ope” featuring Olamide. He further solidified his presence in the industry by signing a distribution deal with Empire in July 2022.
In September 2022, Asake dropped his debut studio album, “Mr. Money with the Vibe,” featuring popular tracks like “Terminator” and “Peace Be Unto You,” alongside a Burna Boy-assisted remix of “Sungba.” The album received widespread acclaim, debuting at number 66 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Following the album’s success, Asake announced a UK tour, which included sold-out shows at the O2 Academy Brixton in London. Tragically, during one of these performances, a crowd crush resulted in several injuries and the loss of two lives.
Acknowledging his impact, Audiomack crowned Asake as “artiste of the year” in December 2022, citing the immense success of his debut album, which amassed over 330 million streams. He continued his momentum with singles like “Yoga,” “2:30,” and “Amapiano” featuring Olamide.
In April 2023, Asake made an appearance on Good Morning America to discuss his music, further solidifying his international recognition. He followed up with his second studio album, “Work of Art,” in June 2023, which also made waves on various charts and was hailed as the most streamed Nigerian album of the year by Turntable charts.
