Early life and Education
Coming from a polygamous household in Ikorodu, Bella Shmurda is the youngest of 10 siblings. His passion for the arts ignited during his formative years, where he participated in his school’s band and cultural dance group. Raised in Ikorodu initially, he later pursued his secondary education in Badagry before earning a bachelor’s degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University.

Bella Shmurda rose to fame with his debut single “Vision 2020,” which caught the attention of Nigerian rapper Olamide, leading to a remix. The song went viral after dancer Poco Lee made a video with it, prompting Olamide to invite Bella Shmurda to his studio for the remix. Encouraged by the support, Bella Shmurda released his first EP, “High Tension,” in January 2020.
Throughout 2020, he continued to showcase his artistry in afrobeats, collaborating with rapper Zlatan on the track “Cash App.” He received nominations for awards like the Next Rated Award at The Headies 2020 and won accolades such as “Next Rated Male” and “Street Music of the Year” at the City People Entertainment Awards.

In March 2023, he released “Ara (Gen Gen Tin),” followed by “Philo,” featuring Omah Lay, off his debut album “Hypertension,” which gained global attention and even received a remix from South African rapper Nasty C. Philanthropy
In October 2021, Bella Shmurda responded to a viral video of a young child performing a song by Olamide and himself by deciding to sponsor the child’s elementary school education. This scholarship was implemented in November 2021.
Additionally, on his birthday in January 2022, Bella Shmurda announced a program through his collective to provide meals for a thousand needy individuals in the Ojo community, where he spent his childhood, every year on his birthday.
