Harrison Tare Okiri, popularly known as Harrysong, is a renowned Nigerian singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. He gained widespread recognition with his tribute song to Nelson Mandela, which earned the “Most Downloaded Callertune Award” at The Headies in 2013.
Early life
Harrysong was born as the only child to Ijaw parents in Warri, Delta State. Following the death of his mother, he faced a strained relationship with his stepmother, which led to him dropping out of school. His interest in music intensified after he relocated to Port Harcourt.
CareerHarrysong’s music career began at the age of eleven as a congarist in the church where his mother was the music director. He later learned contemporary gospel music. In 2007, he moved to Lagos and became the lead singer of a live band performing in nightclubs. His encounter with Kcee led to a signing with Five Star Music. He rose to fame with the singles “I’m In Love” and “Taiye & Kehinde,” with the music video for “I’m In Love” topping charts, including Trace TV. In 2012, he released his debut album, *Testify*, through QuestionMark Entertainment. Just before COVID-19 reached Nigeria, he released a new song titled “Bumbumbum,” collaborating with Davido.
Personal life
On June 22, 2017, Harrysong welcomed twins with Alexer Perez Gopa, a boy named Perez and a girl named Tare. On February 4, 2021, he announced his engagement to Alexer Perez Gopa on Instagram, and they got married on March 27, 2021, in Warri.
