Early life and Education
Jade Cargill was born in Gifford, Florida, into a family of Jamaican descent. She attended both Sebastian River High School and Vero Beach High School, contributing to two basketball district championships. In 2009, she played Amateur Athletic Union basketball for the Orlando Comets.
Afterwards, Cargill graduated from Jacksonville University with a degree in social science, where she also played basketball for the Jacksonville Dolphins. She earned recognition by being named to the Atlantic Sun Preseason First Team during her senior year. Later, she pursued a master’s degree in child psychology.
Following her academic achievements, Cargill worked as a child psychologist with foster children until 2019.
Career
In her pursuit of a wrestling career, Jade Cargill sought guidance from WWE veteran Mark Henry, whom she considers her mentor. Under his advice, she enrolled at the Face 2 Face professional wrestling school in Morrow, Georgia, co-owned by Heath Slater, Ron Simmons, and Teddy Long, in 2018. Following this, she attended a WWE tryout at the WWE Performance Center in April 2019 and later trained at AR Fox’s WWA4 Academy. Subsequently, she honed her skills at Nightmare Factory under Q. T. Marshall and Dustin Rhodes. In 2021, with the arrival of Sonjay Dutt and Bryan Danielson at All Elite Wrestling (AEW), she received coaching from them at the request of AEW founder Tony Khan.
Cargill’s professional wrestling debut with AEW occurred on the November 11, 2020, episode of Dynamite, where she interrupted Cody Rhodes, hinting at the arrival of Shaquille O’Neal. Shortly after, she signed a multi-year contract with AEW. She teamed up with Cody Rhodes and his wife Brandi, leading to her first match on March 3, 2021, which she won alongside Shaquille O’Neal against Rhodes and Red Velvet. Throughout the early months of 2022, Jade Cargill maintained her undefeated streak in AEW, successfully defending her title against several opponents, including The Bunny, Tay Conti, Willow Nightingale, and Leila Grey. In mid-April, she formed her own stable called the Baddies, comprising herself, Kiera Hogan, and Red Velvet. Stokely Hathaway became her new manager at Double or Nothing on May 29, and later, Leila Grey joined the stable, replacing an injured Red Velvet.
On January 5, 2023, Cargill celebrated her one-year anniversary as TBS Champion. A week later, she became the longest-reigning champion in AEW history, surpassing Hikaru Shida’s record with the AEW Women’s World Championship. However, her historic reign came to an end at Double or Nothing on May 28, 2023, when she lost the title to Kris Statlander in an open challenge, ending her reign at 508 days and her 60-match unbeaten streak.
Cargill made her return on the September 9 episode of Collision, attacking Statlander. Their rematch occurred on the September 15 episode of Rampage, where Cargill was defeated, marking her final match in AEW.
After departing from AEW, Jade Cargill joined the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, in September 2023. WWE later announced her signing to a multi-year contract, making her the first signee under TKO Group Holdings. Her first appearance on WWE programming was during the Fastlane pre-show on October 7, where she was seen arriving at the arena and greeted by WWE chief content officer Triple H. At WrestleMania XL, she, Naomi, and Belair secured victory against Damage CTRL in a six-woman tag team match, with Cargill pinning Dakota Kai. Shortly after, at Backlash France, Cargill and Belair defeated The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) of Damage CTRL to claim the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, marking Cargill’s first title win in WWE.

Jade Cargill and her husband, former Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips, share a child together. In March 2023, they were revealed as the owners of the Texas Smoke, the fourth franchise of Women’s Professional Fastpitch (WPF), headquartered in Austin, Texas. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Cargill’s cousin, Peter Cargill, was a player for the Jamaica national football team during the 1980s and 1990s.
