Laycon, born Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba on November 8, 1993, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and media personality.
He emerged as the victor of Big Brother Naija season 5 and has held the position of youth ambassador for Ogun State, Nigeria, since October 6, 2020. Additionally, in October 2022, he joined the Grammys Recording Academy voting committee.
Early life and Education
Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba hails from Odeda, Ogun State, although he was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He attended Lagos State Model College, Merian, Nigeria. In 2012, he gained admission to study Philosophy at the University of Lagos, graduating in 2016 with a Second Class Upper degree. In April 2023, he obtained a Master of Arts (MA) in International Relations from the University of Portsmouth, England.
Career
Laycon embarked on his career journey as an intern, serving as the personal assistant to the MD and CEO of Latjum Global Nigeria Limited while still studying at the University of Lagos. Following graduation, he transitioned to Bestman Games in Ikoyi, Lagos, working in sales and business development. Shortly after, he assumed the role of personal assistant to the assistant director of welfare in administration and human resources at the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy. Concurrently, he pursued freelance writing opportunities for various companies.
In the music realm, Laycon’s passion for rap and songwriting began early on. He showcased his talent at events such as the 2014 Coke Studio University of Lagos and the 2017 MTV Base LSB challenge. In 2019, he joined Olugbenga Jackson’s record label “Fierce Nation” and released the track “Fierce” featuring Chinko Ekun and Reminisce from his EP “Who Is Laycon?”. He followed up with the single “Senseless” in August 2020.
His musical journey gained momentum with features on remixes such as DJ Neptune’s “Nobody iCONs Remix” and Mr. Real’s “Baba Fela”. In March 2021, Laycon dropped two singles, “Wagwan” and “Fall For Me (ft YKB)”, the former debuting on Billboard’s top ten global triller chart.

Laycon joined Big Brother Naija season 5 as the nineteenth contestant on July 19, 2020, quickly winning over fans and becoming a household name. Notably, he became the first contestant of the season to receive Instagram verification on July 22, 2020. Setting a new milestone, Laycon became the first housemate in the show’s history to amass 1 million followers on Instagram while still in the house, achieving this feat on September 19, 2020.
His popularity soared during the finale on September 27, 2020, where he clinched victory with an unprecedented 60% of the total votes cast, securing the ₦85 million grand prize.
Personal life
Laycon’s genotype is SC, indicating that he is a carrier of sickle cell disease but not personally affected by it. Following his victory on the BBNaija show, he generously donated money towards the care of sickle cell patients, demonstrating his commitment to supporting those affected by the condition.
