Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a Nigerian entrepreneur and politician. He assumed office as the governor of Ondo State in 2023, following his tenure as the deputy governor from 2021 to 2023 under Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Aiyedatiwa has also served as a commissioner of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
Early life and Education
Born on January 12, 1965, Aiyedatiwa originates from Obe-Nla, an oil-rich community situated in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Lucky’s educational journey began at Saint Peter’s UNA (now FAC) Primary School, Obe Nla/Obe Adun in Ilaje LGA of Ondo State, where he completed his primary education from 1970 to 1976. He then pursued his secondary education at Ikosi High School, Ketu, Lagos, graduating in 1982. Later, in 1986, he earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Economics and Government from Lagos State College of Education (now Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education), Ijanikin, Lagos. Continuing his academic pursuits, he obtained an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Ibadan in 2001. He further enhanced his business management skills by completing a Post Graduate Certification in Chief Executive Education (CEP) from Lagos Business School – Pan Atlantic University, Lekki, Lagos, in 2009. In 2013, he capped his academic achievements with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Career
Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s career journey is marked by diverse roles and achievements. He began as an Inventory/Store Officer at Scoa Assembly Plant Plc. in Apapa, Lagos, from 1982 to 1983. Transitioning to education, he served as an Assistant Head Teacher at Reliance International Schools in Ijokodo, Ibadan, in 1987. In 1990, he delved into marketing as a Marketing Officer at Universal Pharmaceutical Supply Co. Ltd in Ikeja, Lagos. His analytical skills led him to become an Assistant Investment Analyst at Global Trust Limited, Gbagada, Lagos, in 1992. Progressing further, he assumed the role of General Merchandise Manager at Biz Mart Nigeria Limited, Lagos Island, Lagos, in 1994.
In 1996, Aiyedatiwa established the Blue Wall Group of Companies, where he currently serves as the MD/CEO. The group comprises Blue Wall Nigeria Ltd, a Trading Company; Blue Wall BDC Nigeria Ltd, a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) licensed foreign exchange trading company; and Blue Wall Safety Travels and Tours, an IATA licensed Travel Agency and Logistic Company.
In 2011, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa embarked on his political journey as a card-carrying member of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which later merged with other parties to form the All Progressives Congress (APC). His commitment to the party saw him representing Ondo State as one of the National Delegates at the APC National Convention held in Abuja in 2014. Aiyedatiwa further demonstrated his political ambition by contesting for the federal House of Representatives seat for the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency during the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly General Election.
Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to public service extended to his role as the federal commissioner representing Ondo State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission from 2018 to 2019.
In the 2020 Ondo State gubernatorial election, Aiyedatiwa was selected as the running mate of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. They were elected as governor and deputy governor of Ondo State by the Independent National Electoral Commission on October 11, 2020. Subsequently, on February 25, 2021, they were sworn into office. Aiyedatiwa assumed the role of acting governor on December 13, 2023, when Akeredolu left for end-stage leukemia treatment, having previously served in the same capacity from June to September 2023 during Akeredolu’s medical leave. Tragically, Akeredolu passed away on December 27, 2023, and Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the governor of Ondo State.
