Rasmus Højlund is a Danish professional footballer.
He plays as a forward for both Manchester United in the Premier League and the Denmark national team.
Early life
Rasmus Winter Højlund was born on February 4, 2003 in Copenhagen and grew up in Hørsholm, within the Capital Region.
Career
He began his youth football career with HUI and Brøndby before joining Copenhagen’s youth system. He made his professional debut for Copenhagen at 17 on October 25, 2020. During the 2021–22 season, he debuted in European competitions, scoring five goals in the UEFA Europa Conference League, including both qualification rounds and the main tournament.
In January 2022, Højlund transferred to Austrian Bundesliga club Sturm Graz for a reported fee of €1.8 million. He netted 12 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions during the rest of the 2021–22 season and the start of the 2022–23 season.
On August 27, 2022, Højlund signed with Serie A club Atalanta for a reported €17 million. He scored his first goal for Atalanta on September 5 in a 2–0 away win against Monza. Initially a substitute, he secured a starting spot due to the poor form and injuries of Duván Zapata. In January 2023, he delivered impressive performances, scoring four goals in four consecutive matches.
On July 29, 2023, Manchester United agreed to sign Højlund from Atalanta for an initial fee of £64 million, plus £8 million in performance-related add-ons, with Højlund signing a five-year contract with an option for an additional year. He was officially announced as a United player on August 5, 2023, pending international clearance.
Højlund made his debut on September 3, 2023, coming on as a substitute in a 3–1 Premier League loss to Arsenal. On September 20, he scored his first goal for Manchester United in a 4–3 away defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. In United’s second Champions League match against Galatasaray at Old Trafford, he scored twice in a 3–2 loss and was named man of the match. On November 8, he scored twice in a 4–3 defeat to his former club FC Copenhagen at Parken. He netted his first Premier League goal on December 26, scoring the winner in a 3–2 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
On February 4, 2024, Højlund scored the opening goal in Manchester United’s 3–0 win over West Ham, coinciding with his 21st birthday. A week later, he scored the opener in a 2–1 away victory over Aston Villa, becoming the second-youngest player to score in five consecutive Premier League games, behind only Nicolas Anelka. On February 18, 2024, he scored his first brace for the club in a 2–1 win over Luton Town, making him the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League games, surpassing Joe Willock’s record. On March 8, Højlund was named Premier League Player of the Month, the first Danish player to receive the award. On April 21, Højlund scored the decisive penalty to send Manchester United to the 2024 FA Cup final, following a 3–3 draw after extra time against Coventry City in the semi-final.
In September 2022, Højlund made his debut for Denmark’s national team, playing against Croatia and France in the UEFA Nations League. On March 23, 2023, he made his first international start and scored a hat-trick in a 3–1 victory over Finland during the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers, marking his first goals for Denmark. He finished the qualification phase as Denmark’s top scorer with seven goals.

His younger twin brothers, Emil and Oscar, are also footballers and currently play for his former club, Copenhagen.
