Segun Arinze, born Segun Padonou Aina in 1965, is a Nigerian actor and singer.
Early life and Education
He is the eldest of seven children born to Lydia Padonu, hailing from Badagry, Lagos State. Segun Arinze attended Victory College of Commerce Edidi in Ilorin and then proceeded to Taba Commercial College in Kaduna State for his secondary education. He studied Dramatic Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University. Popularly known as “Black Arrow,” he gained this nickname from a role he played in the 1996 classic movie “Silent Night” by the late filmmaker Chico Ejiro.
Career
Segun Arinze began his career as a singer and actor, with singing initially propelling him into prominence following the release of his debut album, Dream, though it didn’t achieve commercial success. He embarked on his acting journey in Ilorin. Apart from his roles in movies, Segun also serves as an acting coach, imparting his knowledge to the next generation of actors, including working with a prestigious African international film festival.
Personal life
Segun Arinze was previously married to fellow Nollywood actress Anne Njemanze, which later ended in a short-lived marriage. The couple has one daughter, Renny Morenike, born on 10 May.
He is currently married to Julie Arinze, a lawyer and employee of Schlumberger, a global corporation in Nigeria. Julie hails from Oguta, Imo State.
