Career
Boniface joined Bodø/Glimt from Real Sapphire on March 4, 2019. Unfortunately, he suffered a ligament injury just two weeks after joining, sidelining him for the entire 2019 season. Although initially selected for the Nigeria U-20 squad for the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, he had to withdraw due to injury. Despite these setbacks, he made his league debut for Bodø/Glimt in September 2019.
In August 2022, Boniface signed a four-year deal with Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise. During his time there, Union reached the quarter-finals of the 2022–23 Europa League, with Boniface scoring six goals in the competition, including a brace against Union Berlin in the round of 16, finishing as the joint top scorer alongside Marcus Rashford.
On July 22, 2023, Boniface made a move to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, signing a contract until 2028 and receiving the number 22 shirt. He made his Bundesliga debut as a starter on August 19 in a 3–2 home victory over RB Leipzig. Just a week later, on August 26, he scored his first Bundesliga goals with a brace in a 3–0 away derby win against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
On April 11th, Boniface scored against West Ham in the 1st leg of the Europa League quarter-final, securing a 2-0 victory.
The game against West Ham showcased Boniface’s ability to perform on the big stage, contributing crucially to Bayer Leverkusen’s European campaign. With his impressive skills and determination, Boniface has quickly made an impact at his new club, Bayer Leverkusen, and is poised to continue making significant contributions both domestically and in European competitions.
Boniface marked his debut for the Nigeria senior team on September 10, 2023, entering the match in the 64th minute as a substitute for Taiwo Awoniyi. He made an immediate impact by providing an assist to Samuel Chukwueze, showcasing his value to the team. Despite his promising start, a setback occurred when he sustained a muscle injury on January 8, 2024, leading to his absence from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast. As a result, Terem Moffi was called up to replace him in the squad.
