Engr. Marvellous Omobayo Godwins was born on the 19th of July, 1986 and hails from Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.
Education
He holds a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering as well as an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), positioning him as both a seasoned professional and an expert in public administration, well-equipped for his role.
Works and Political Activities
Omobayo is a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Omobayo’s engineering prowess is well recognised.
During his tenure at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited as a Senior Maintenance Engineer, Engr. Marvellous Omobayo Godwins has made a significant impact, leading the company’s operations and driving growth within the South-South region of Nigeria with his leadership and technical prowess.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Omobayo’s involvement in local politics has further enhanced his reputation as a unifying force and a skilled mobilizer. His ability to connect with the community, build trust, and rally people toward shared objectives has earned him recognition as a formidable political leader, often surprising adversaries with his strategic insight.
Regarding his recent appointment, Engr. Omobayo has affirmed his dedication to utilizing his engineering expertise and governance experience to advance the development of Edo State. “The combination of my engineering background and administrative skills enables me to make meaningful contributions to the progress of our state,” he emphasized, outlining his vision for a technologically advanced and efficiently administered Edo State.
Omobayo also contested as Labour party candidate for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency during the 2023 elections.
On the 8th of April 2024, A few hours after the impeachment of Comrade Philip Shaibu as deputy governor of Edo State by the State House of Assembly, Omobayo Godwins was sworn in as a replacement.
LEADERSHIP reports that the impeachment of Shaibu on Monday followed the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the Assembly to probe allegations of misconduct against the former deputy governor.
Taking his oath of office, Omobayo gave a powerful speech:
“Beyond this legal ceremony, it is imperative that l publicly express my profound gratitude to our respected executive governor, His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and the leadership of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party. “After all the very painful and thought-provoking distractions of the past few months, our governor is determined to finish his second term very strong. “From his dialogue with me, it is clear that he is very determined to bequeath a legacy of peace, unity, progress and visible development to Edo State.
“A legacy that the next PDP regime will find exciting to proudly build upon and maintain the leadership position Edo has achieved over time in the comity of states in Nigeria.”
